I got my DOD3 Complete Guide and I’m staring at the timeline and wondering what the fuck happened because everything is a lie somehow. And the predictions and shit are all messed up.
According to the timeline, DOD isn’t even linked to DOD3. Utahime manga>DOD3 > Shi ni Itaru Aka> DOD1.3 and then…
I think we have to understand the fundamental construct of the DOD universe before getting into this. The whole idea of multiple universes and/or timelines plays a vital role in what we see in this series.
That being said, the original DOD timeline did not have DOD3 as a prequel; in other words, in the DOD1 universe, DOD3 never happened. But when Zero, the singularity, came about, controlled by the power of the flower, it contaminated the timeline and future events yet to come—> That is where DOD1.3 comes in.
As far as DOD2 is concerned, I don’t believe we can totally take that one as canon since Yoko Taro had nothing to do with it. I think that could also be why it’s relatively left off by itself in these recent timelines.
Oh gosh I didn’t really expect anyone to see what I wrote haha. I wasn’t at home when I got my book so it was hard to focus on timeline 100%.
Me and my friend were discussing about it a lot after I told her and I think it was mostly that we were under the impressions that DOD3 -was- meant to be a prequel to DOD (perhaps we heard it wrong?) and seeing the timeline in the book showed that it had nothing to do with it. Then seeing DOD1.3 not being just a ‘what if’ thing is actually being part of the timeline was really surprising.
It’s a little disappointing that DOD3 didn’t end up being a prequel but ended up on its own timeline. I wish to one day have a prequel to the DOD timeline. As for DOD2, I understand it wasn’t Yoko Taro’s project and that most people really don’t like the game but, haha ..
I do. But I had a Japanese friend explain to me about it and why it couldn’t have taken place after Ending A like everyone thought it did.
My friend had a pretty good idea about Accord but after this we are back to creating new ideas and predictions.
Thanks for taking the time to even reply, I didn’t even expect it.
Aww, no worries! I like to talk to other fans as much as I can! Just these topics about alternate universes and splitting timelines is extra interesting to me (Ever watch Fringe!? I was insanely obsessed with that show…!!)
I think there was some misdirection going on when they labeled DOD3 as a direct prequel to DOD1. Even after knowing what we do now, it still is a form of prequel… just not exactly what we were expecting in regard to the multiple timelines and such. It’s curious though what events led up to the original DOD1. Did DOD3 not exist at all in that timeline? Maybe the original DOD could still come to be even without the influence of the Flower.
So, what are the important factors that need to be in place for DOD1 to happen? The Red-Eye Disease? That was never completely understood how it began. There are speculations, mostly given by characters within the story, but honestly, it could have been started differently. What else is important? The contracts between dragons and humans? Okay, who’s to say Zero was the only one who started that? It could have come about in a different way, without using the power of the Flower to do it.
Ah, and DOD2… Actually, I’m a bad fan. I have yet to play DOD1… but I did play DOD2 shortly after it was released. The commercials that they played on TV really got me interested in it, and that theme song by Mika-sama… <3 I still sing that in karaoke sometimes. The initial reason I never played DOD1 was because… it was released before I moved to Japan. I think perhaps I bought the game used after finishing DOD2… but was turned off by the horrid game play. :P I’ve got another copy of it now, so I hope to get into it again (I started a new game well before DOD3 was released, in hopes of finishing it before the release date… but that never happened). But, I also enjoyed DOD2. xD
What was your theory about Accord? I’ve made several with her; my main one connects her with the group, YoRHa, that performs the vocals in the boss battle themes. I just can’t imagine Yoko Taro working with a minor idol group without a hidden purpose. xD
Anyway, thanks for your response, too!! ^0^/
